The text of Kaiser Bill is built on the idea that not only is X  dependent on Y for its existence but that X and Y are dependent on each other and as we move through time in all directions.

I asked banjoist BB Bowness to play a “lunatic solo” for her second break. And so she did.

Kaiser Bill

(Jody Stecher/Vegetiboy Music BMI)

If it had not-a been for the Kaiser Bill there would not-a been no hell
I wouldn’t be tired of lowdown sleep if it had not-a been for Nell
I’d be married a long time ago if had not-a been for the Cottoneye Joe
If it had not-a been for the Kaiser Bill there wouldna been no hell

Chorus:

If had not-a been for tomorrow there’d be no yesterday
Perhaps I’ve got it backwards, I really cannot say
If it had not-a been for the farmer there wouldana been no dell
If it had not-a been for the Kaiser Bill there would not-a been no hell

If it had not-a been for the sinners the saints could not exist
Jesus could retire and I ‘spect he’d be right pissed
The bodhisatvas would hang up their hats, close up the spiritual laundromats
If it had not-a been for the Kaiser Bill there would not-a been no hell

Chorus

If it was not for the criminals the police’d have nothing to do
No work for jailers, lawyers, bailiffs, judges too
The sheriffs and deputies’d be out on the street
Back door beggin’ for their bread and meat
If it had not-a been for the Kaiser Bill there would not-a been no hell

Chorus
