The Lost Brothers

I dreamed that three brothers had been in a battle with overwhelming superior forces. They were defending their homes and land and had been driven back to the edge of a cliff overhanging the sea. They were composed as in a movie poster with one in front and middle facing forward and the other two on the sides and somewhat behind him, facing left and right respectively. They had no hope of success but they stood their ground bravely, fortified by the knowledge of the justice of their cause. “The Lost Brothers” might be the theme music for this movie dream.

“Tanglefoot Blues” began as a mandolin instrumental. The circumstances described in the song gave rise to the words.

I woke up alone I was at home
with my feet all tangled in the blanket
Woke up at home I was alone
with my feet all tangled in the blanket
I woke up alone I was at home
with my feet tangled up in the blanket
Oh my you, my you, how did I get so fat?

Woke up alone I was at home
with my feet all tangled in the blanket
Woke up at home I was alone
with my feet all tangled in the blanket
I woke up alone to the jangle of the phone
keep it to a tingle doncha crank it
Oh my you, my you
Who put the blanket in the blender?

I dreamed I played an awful gig
In a band with the Queen of Farts
I never heard the tunes before
I did not know my parts
We played to a thousand empty seats
The mic-s pointed at our ankles
Ohhhh my you, my you
Who put the tangle in the blankles?

A rumdum channel and a B grade film
They caused me to turn in late
I dressed for lunch with my undies in a bunch
But I was in such a state
My big head couldn’t get through the sleeve
Where my right arm ought to be
And wouldn’t you know, my left big toe
Got snagged on the fly, somehow near my knee
Me oh my, didn’t I fly, across the room I flew
Have you wondered why it’s called a fly?
When I hit wall I knew

Then the hood of my hoody fell in
I couldn’t pass through again
My head was stuck and my arms up in the air
That was when the doorbell rang
And my elbow it went bang
As it hit the wall which somehow pulled my hair.

I woke up alone I was at home
with my feet all tangled in the blanket
Woke up at home I was alone
with my feet all tangled in the blanket
I woke up alone I was at home
with my feet tangled up in the blanket
Oh my you, my you, how did I get so fat?

When you’re gone I make the best of it
I’ll wash a dish and leave the rest of it
I do not very much like it when you’re gone
I tidy up my desk a bit
More than not I make a mess of it
Then I give up and turn the TV on

I hate it when you’re gone, I’ll be alone
with my feet all tangled in the blanket.
I’ll wake up alone I’ll be at home
With my feet tangled up the blanket
Waking up alone knowing your gone
And my big  feet strangled in the blanket
Oooohhhhh my you, my you
I wish you’d come on home.
